| Federer survives scare; Hewitt wins epic
Federer was untouchable in his first two matches, dropping only six games in six sets. He had numerous chances to take control, but Tipsarevic saved 16 of 20 break points against him until Federer finally cashed No. 21 after rallying from 40-0 as the Serbian served at 8-8 in the fifth set. "I had to block out all the chances I missed," said Federer, who next faces No. 13 seed Berdych, a four-set winner over No. 21 Juan Monaco. "He came up with some fantastic plays and played me well." Tipsarevic said his strategy was simple. "Be aggressive, and then try to make him work for the points that he's winning. "Against Roger it's so hard, because he's playing every point. Even when you're up like 40-0, the game is far, far from over." Blake was only two points from joining Andy Roddick and Fernando Gonzalez as an upset third-round loser at the Australian Open.
Love it or hate it, you'll definitely talk about it
LOVE or hate this revival of Pirandello's classic play at the Royal Lyceum, it will provoke plenty of debate and discussion long after it ends.Which should not be too surprising – riots greeted the first performance of the play in Italy in 1921, and it was so "upsetting", it was banned by Lord Chamberlain from public performance in England. It sets out calmly enough. Indeed, under Mark Thomson's astute direction for this co-production with the Glasgow Citizens and the National Theatre of Scotland, it is even a bit old hat, with a troupe of rather hammy old thespians coming on to the empty stage to rehearse a Pirandello play. This is nothing more than a beautifully observed take on the theatrical process. Which, in this version of the play by David Harrower, is set in a 1920s Scottish theatre.Eric Barlow puts in an excellently comic turn as the taciturn stage manager who clearly believes the stage belongs to him.
'Untraceable' likely to satisfy only sadists
Untraceable" is a movie designed for sadistic weirdos who like to watch people bleed to death or kittens be killed. You know who you are - the "Saw" fans. The fact that it stars the likable and gifted Diane Lane and is directed by the sometimes competent Gregory Hoblit is more a curiosity than a selling point. "Untraceable," aside from Lane, pretends to be decent on another level - a very flagrant level. It suggests that murders viewable at a Web site are aided and abetted by voyeuristic Internet types who are just itching to see things like this. The premise, painfully, may be true. The things that get high ratings on TV nowadays reveal that high moral values are not paramount in our society, or even promoted. But "Untraceable" is thoroughly unconvincing as some kind of morality tale.

Offense becomes offensive again
I do know for a fact that you will have a year, a team, a situation that nothing seems to work. I was happy when we hired BW because I believed that he could win without having great players. GK did it at Purdue with BW helping. BW did it at SIU with Painter on the bench. Many on this blog is getting tired of hearing about KU, NCU, Duke etc. Remember the point of talking about these teams. We can not and have not recruited with these teams. I believe we can get better talent and can hope for sometime in my life time to see 3 Mickey D's on the Illini at one time. .

Valk missing link
OWNERSHIP of a Women's NBL team can have its downside as the Lightning's enigmatic boss Vince Marino found out last year. Marino controversially dumped coach Chris Lucas just two rounds into the season after a slow win over Perth and poor home loss to Dandenong. The status of Marino's daughter Angela, new to the line-up, was immediately in sharp focus, as was the rushed appointment of Vicki Valk as only Adelaide's third WNBL coach. Valk had been an unlucky candidate when Lucas succeeded Opals coach Jan Stirling in 2004-05. Ownership of a WNBL team can have its upside as Marino also has found, his team winning the regular season championship with a sizzling 21-3 record, on a 16-game winning streak and with a home double-chance semi-final at the Distinctive Homes Dome against Sydney on Saturday.
Ice Hockey: Kanka at the double as Bees put Raiders to the sword
But the margin of victory in their final group match gives them a decent chance of finishing with the best record of any team in the last four and therefore securing favourable home advantage in the second leg during the knockout stage. Czech ace Kanka opened the scoring a little more than three minutes into the match. And before the first period had ended, Bees had extended their lead to 4-0 thanks to Danny House, Shaun Thompson and Matt Foord. It was no more than Bees deserved, having outshot the Islanders 24-1. Goals from Jan Melichar and Peter Jasik made it 6-0 before ex-Bee Danny Hughes let fly with a trademark shot from point to get his new club off the mark. Jasik, Melichar and Bees' man-of-the-match Jamie Line stretched the lead to 9-1, before Kanka wrapped up the scoring at 54.24.

A second Christian ministry is refusing to meet a Thursday deadline for a Senate investigation into preachers' salaries, perks and travel, The Associated Press has learned. Benny Hinn of World Healing Center Church Inc. and Benny Hinn Ministries of Grapevine, Texas, said in a statement to the AP on Thursday that he will not respond to the inquiry until next year. A lawyer for preacher Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta had said Wednesday that the investigation should be referred to the IRS or the Senate panel should get a subpoena for the documents. Both Hinn and Dollar are regents for Oral Roberts University. Sen.

Kasey Harlos scored 14 points and defending Class 2A state champion Poth earned a return trip to the title game with a 54-42 semifinals victory over Woodville on Friday. Consecutive 3-pointers by M'Lis Kilgore sparked a 17-4 run over the third and fourth quarters that built a 48-32 lead. Kilgore and Kelsey Titzman each scored 13 points for Poth, with Kilgore hitting four of her team's eight 3-pointers. Poth lost in the state semifinals three straight times from 2004-2006 before finally breaking through with a double-overtime win last over Winnsboro last season. Kilgore hit the shot to force the first overtime in the championship game and came up big again Friday with the 3-pointers that broke open a close game with Woodville Poth led 33-28 when Kilgore was left open on the left wing and swished the shot.
