| Amazon plans to take its DRM-free music offering worldwide
And the others—such as eMusic, 7digital, PureTracks, and Amie Street—have just a sprinkling of bigger names with their smaller labels. Amazon also offers slightly more competitive prices than its number one rival (iTunes), with most tracks going for 89¢ apiece instead of iTunes' standard 99¢. Yahoo is, however, apparently planning its own DRM-free music store that could potentially rival Amazon's. If true, both companies need to figure out ways to set themselves apart, by offering more services or music in multiple, flexible formats. Amazon likely already knows this, and wants to stay ahead of the game by announcing its international launch plans now even if the details haven't been solidified yet. In the meantime, iTunes—which already has a number of localized iTunes Stores set up all over the world—will continue the fight to get more DRM-free tracks before Amazon manages to take over.
Study: Bush Led US To War on ‘False Pretenses’
Her statements are contradictory. If you want a "uniter" and not a "divider," then Nancy Pelosi is your kind of Democrat since she has taken impeachment off the table. On the other hand, if you want to hold Bush and his war criminals accountable, then Obama, the biggest "uniter" (read Republican suck-up) of all, is the least likely of all Democratic presidential candidates to ever call for Bush/Cheney's impeachment or any congressional investigation of their lies. You can't have it both ways. If you want a "divider" (read fighter for truth and justice) who is willing to take on the Bush gang, then consider the other Dems. I like Edwards. But I also think the media's twisting of "the Clintons'" image into one of "divisiveness" indicates that the Republicans and their allies are afraid of what investigations Hillary might launch if she becomes president.
'Blue Jean Confidential' gives dirt on denim
To be honest, I was fooled by the title. After inserting Blue Jean Confidential (CBC, 8 tonight) into the DVD player, I was expecting a wide-ranging documentary about a certain former prime minister. Instead, I watched a wide-ranging documentary about denim. Don't get me wrong. Who isn't fascinated by the history of jeans? Still, is there an elite Confidential Team operating within the public broadcaster? I'm imagining a subterranean space, all gleaming steel and glass, where they secretly convene to discuss pitches. Confidential Team Leader: "Before we begin, I have a funny story to share. Somebody in the documentary unit mentioned Canada's mission in Afghanistan and said we should commission a piece called Combat Confidential. "I laughed so hard I nearly dislodged the microchip Stursberg implanted in my brainstem! These old-timers are so quaint, aren't they? So what do we have?" Confidential Team Member: "That is a funny story! Thank you for sharing, Team Leader! So and so wants to do a piece on slippers.
Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"
Mike Jorgenson, R-Hayden Lake, and two other friends. Ron G. Johnson/Rathdrum: "This is the Fourth of July, and freedom was won with guns that made noise, and I don't see any reason why we can't do that in the parade." DFO: Mayor Sandi Bloem and the chamber made a good call. There's no reason for a parade entry to spoil this celebration b/c a coupla middle-agers want to shoot off their own version of fireworks along the route. Question: Do you support the chamber's decision to allow the Patton command vehicle replica but not the noise from the 50-calibre gun? .

Zell Miller to visit Arkansas
If your ilk consider probable cause to be stupidy, then I am darn proud to say I am a democrat. If you really wanted smaller government, then you'd stand up for civil liberties instead of deriding them time and time again. Instead, you want small government in theory but big government when it is convenient for your fear-mongering agenda. Go Dems in '08 .

Kidd trade to Mavs will cost Dallas $11 million more than original ...
Harris' numbers have improved each of his four years in the league, and we feel that he has a significant upside. This trade also will give us two future first-round draft picks and will give us flexibility to improve our roster." Thorn told The Associated Press that as the Nets struggled this season, Kidd lost some of the intensity that defines him as a player, making it imperative that the team trade him. Thorn said he first noticed it in December, an indirect reference to an incident in which Kidd sat out a game against the New York Knicks with a migraine, a move some considered a one-day walkout to force a trade. "Over the course of time it became very evident that his heart wasn't in it," Thorn said. "The kind of player he is, if his heart's not in it then he's not the same player, and it became evident to me that his heart wasn't in it anymore.
Met plan moves police to out of town megabases
London is poised to move on to the next iteration of virtualising its policing, following the publication of the first of a series of consultations on police basing requirements in the capital. The plans effectively place community support officers, aka 'Blunkett's Bobbies' as the primary 'customer interface' for policing in London, while the 'real' police take a further step back, away from the public. Small "safer neighbourhood" teams consisting of community support officers (a category of police that didn't exist until relatively recently) will operate from high street bases, largely during daylight hours. Existing conventional police stations will tend to be deemed unfit for modern policing and closed, while most police will move into new warehouse-style "patrol bases" which will be closed to the public.
No more weekends off: P’s & C’s reporting
The great L.A. Times scribe Jim Murray once said, "Spring is the time of year when the ground thaws, trees bud, the income tax falls due — and everybody wins the pennant." And so it is that your correspondent, memorably dubbed as the faux "crusading everyman" by one of our angrier blog participants, has already done his taxes, an annual end-of-January ritual before heading to spring training and being immersed in a six-week world where normal life is put on hold and baseball takes precedence over all else. We'll be headed down Wednesday, a day before pitchers and catchers are officially required to report. Need some time to stock the fridge of the rental house and get a lay of the land in our new neighborhood, plus stop by the ballpark at Dark Star to see how many eager Braves arrived early.
