Sheikh Hasina Wajed, a former Prime Minister, has been in detention since July, accused with her sister and cousin of extorting $440,000 from a businessman while in power between 1996 and 2001. Khaleda Zia — her arch rival and another former Prime Minister — is awaiting trial on similar corruption charges dating back to her last term in office, in 2001-06. The two women, who have dominated Bangladeshi politics for almost two decades, were arrested after the army forced the President to cancel parliamentary polls and impose emergency rule in January last year.

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Many online dating sites seek to connect soul mates, to bring together those looking for eternal and everlasting love. The latest Internet dating site, recently launched in Palo Alto, is not one of them. "It's not about marriage," said Alex Gurevich, co-founder of SayHeyHey.com, the first free all-video online dating site. The new site eschews the typical format of online dating sites where users carefully word profiles and post photos "from 10 years and 20 pounds ago," Gurevich said. Instead, users of SayHeyHey post videos of themselves talking, wakeboarding or — in co-founder Soudy Khan's case — utilizing a beer bong. If a visitor is interested in someone else's clip, he or she can send a video introduction.

40% of Scots now support independence
FIRST MINISTER Alex Salmond's plan for a referendum on independence has received a boost after a new poll showed a surge in support for a separate Scottish state. The latest snapshot has revealed that 40% of the population want the Scottish government to negotiate independence with the UK government, a figure that is up 5% in three months. This contrasts with 44% of people who do not want Scotland to pull out of the UK, which is 6% down from August. The poll, which was carried out in late November and early December by TNS System Three, has the advantage of not being commissioned by a political party. .
Nurses denounced as dirty, lazy drunks
I do not mean those in the senior grades, but those at the grass roots. If this is happening in our hospitals, what are the ward managers doing? How are nurses being supervised? Are they aware of their Code of Conduct? There are many who would decry nursing and nurses, but few make the effort to ensure that ward managers have the time to instill professionalism amongst their staff. The ward managers are too busy meeting senseless targets and number crunching, to be able to teach and lead. Professionalism also emanates from the leader.
