 Latin Women Dating Dating Women
To find a partner, scratch and sniff

Sniffing someone's armpits does not sound the most promising start to a date. Research, however, suggests that it will probably turn up a better prospect than either a blind date or gabbling nervously to 20 consecutive strangers. Now a new dating website, ScientificMatch.com, promises a discreet way of letting you nose out potential partners.

Researchers found more than a decade ago - by asking female students to sniff T-shirts worn by men - that ovulating women rate certain male body odours as sexier than others. Crucially, the preferences depended on a certain part of the immune system called the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Women, it turned out, were bewitched by the odours of men whose MHC genes were most different from their own, and repelled by the aroma of men with similar MHC genes.

Garden City continues mastery of Derby

For the Garden City boys, Derby has become a pretty sweet place to visit.

Thursday, the Buffaloes won a 63-60 thriller over the Panthers in a Class 6A sub-state semifinal, Garden City's fourth straight win at Derby dating back to a 2003 sub-state title.

"It's really something else," Garden City coach Jeff Tanner said. "Maybe they'll let us play here Saturday."

Sorry, coach. That game, a sub-state final against No. 2-ranked Southeast, will be played at Campus.

But Thursday, it was all about Garden City point guard Bobby Wesley, who finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, his second straight triple-double.

"Our biggest challenge tonight was to stop Bobby Wesley and we couldn't get it done," said Seth Hardiman, who led Derby with 19 points.

Tioga DA asks appellate court to reinstate Harris verdict

Tioga County District Attorney Gerald Keene has asked a state court to reinstate a guilty verdict against Calvin Harris.

On Wednesday, Keene mailed a 33-page brief to the Appellate Division of state Supreme Court, arguing that the judge's decision to throw out the second-degree murder verdict against the Tioga County businessman was incorrect, the district attorney said Friday.

Keene declined to discuss the specifics of the argument laid out in the appeal.

"The argument is that Judge Smith committed an error by setting aside the verdict," Keene said.

The appellate court could reinstate the guilty verdict, or it could uphold Judge Martin Smith's ruling. If that ruling is upheld, Harris would be re-tried, Keene said.

Harris, 46, was convicted last summer of killing his estranged wife, Michele, who disappeared in 2001.

A small section of the Landmark Square property, which runs along First Street from Grand to Garfield, will become the new First Street Plaza.

The Laramie City Council, during a special meeting Friday, approved an amendment to the Landmark Square parking lot agreement with James A. Gagliardi and Nohra Gagliardi. Laramie Parks and Recreation Director Paul Harrison said that under the agreement the city would lease the property from the Gagliardis for 50 years (15 of which are already past) and the agreement would allow for improvements at the corner of First and Grand for a downtown plaza.

Harrison said initial plans are to construct and maintain a pedestrian park at the corner of First and Grand, which would be known as the First Street Plaza. Key features of the plaza include a bus stop curb cutout, an elevated stage area, landscaping with drip irrigation, benches and picnic tables and a bus shelter with an informational kiosk.

Love has a shot at being selected Pac-10's best

Maybe Kevin Love's distinct talents won't translate into NBA stardom, but the UCLA center is a terrific college player and a favorite to become only the second freshman to be named Pacific 10 Conference player of the year. . . .

The first was California's Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who in 1996 headed an all-conference team that included Washington State's Mark Hendrickson, later a struggling Dodgers left-hander, and Stanford's Brevin Knight, later an NBA journeyman and Clippers reserve. . . .

Rosie on Britney

It takes something really mayjah to get Rosie O'Donnell to speak in half sentences (as opposed to her usual haiky style).

The former talk show host just posted the following entry on her blog about Britney Spears, the next Princess Diana, in her eyes.

Says Ro:

"TWENTY SIX

I remember the tunnel as it appeared on the news, lit by headlights, flashlights, red lights. Between the cement tall pillars was a heap of twisted metal. I saw it then, and I can see it now. Diana dead.

She will be trying to get away, but they will chase her, just as they chased her into that church yesterday. There were dozens of them, jostling their way into sanctuary, elbowing past each other, just to creep closer to her. Even her last-minute, folded-hand prayers can't be kept sacred.

Obituary: Heath Ledger

Actor Heath Ledger, who has been found dead at the age of 28, was regarded as one of Hollywood's brightest young stars, with a string of acclaimed films behind him and a major career ahead.

The death of such an admired star at such a young age will cause huge shock among fans, the media and the movie industry.

He shot onto the A list less than three years ago with a lead role in the universally acclaimed Brokeback Mountain, which proved he could shine in emotionally challenging roles as well as comedies and action films.

He played the inarticulate and volatile ranch hand Ennis, who became romantically entangled with a rodeo cowboy, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, in 1960s Wyoming.

It earned him Oscar, Golden Globe and Bafta nominations.

E Annie Proulx, who wrote the story upon which the movie was based, said: "He was so visceral.
