| Doctor's advice - She's an independent young woman
Good day doctor, I am a 22-year-old young lady, and I have been told that 'independent females' always seem to have problems with males who deem themselves to be God's gift to women. Well, I am dating a young man like that, who is a year older than me, and who seems very naive and narrow-minded. Also, he appears rather intimidated by me. But the big problem is his interfering mother and his meddling aunt! His 'Mama' does not like me, and claims that I am 'the wrong star sign' (Leo)! In fact, the control that his beloved mother has on him is upsetting to me. She is already having converse about her future grandchildren, and saying that I could not care for them in the way that she can. I think I am falling in love with this boy, but I can't cope with his awful mother, who continuously interferes with our relationship.
Time to put the Trade Machine to work
At crunch time, they'd have Williams and Boozer playing the two-man game with three killer shooters spreading the floor (Miller, Okur and Kyle Korver). That would be deadly, right? Also, Lowry would give them their first real backup point guard since Howard Eisley was still alive, and Cardinal gives another white guy for a franchise that can never have enough white guys. I'd think long and hard about this deal if I'm Utah. Why Golden State does it: Because Kirilenko's manifest destiny is to play in Golden State for Don Nelson. It is. You can't tell me differently. Imagine him running around with Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. That's terrifying. Kirilenko would push the Warriors to another level and put them on the short list of true title contenders.
'Blinding Snow' Causes Massive 68-Car Pileup in Pa.; 1 Killed, 35 ...
HAZLETON, Pa. Windy, bitterly cold weather spread from the northern Plains to the Northeast on Sunday, with blinding snow canceling church services in parts of Michigan and causing a 68-vehicle pileup in Pennsylvania. A woman died in the Pennsylvania pileup when her car became wedged underneath a tractor-trailer, said Lt. Jason Zoshak of Hazleton Township Fire and Rescue. About 35 people were injured, and at least 24 people whose cars were not drivable were taken to shelters, he said. Firefighters used ropes to rescue people who had scrambled out of their cars and jumped down an embankment to avoid being hit. "They had a heavy snow squall going through the area, zero visibility, high winds," Zoshak said. "There were vehicles everywhere." Also in Pennsylvania, a 60-foot tree toppled by high winds fell onto a sport utility vehicle traveling along a Berks County road, killing a 48-year-old man and critically injuring his 49-year-old wife, state police said.

Tortorella: 'I don't know who Mike Smith is'
Ever since general manager Jay Feaster made the difficult decision following that NHL championship that with the introduction of the salary cap he had to keep the Big Three of Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards over Khabibulin, the Lightning have never been close to winning another Cup. Since then, the goalie parade included John Grahame, Sean Burke, Marc Denis, Johan Holmqvist and Karri Ramo with no one proving to be up to the job. Denis was the most expensive mistake and now he is in the minor leagues collecting a big salary. Feaster and Lightning head coach John Tortorella hope they have finally hit on the right choice, even if it did cost them star centre Brad Richards. On the NHL's trade-deadline day on Tuesday, Feaster made one of the biggest trades of the day when he sent Richards to the Dallas Stars for goaltender Mike Smith and forwards Jeff Halpern and Jussi Jokinen.
Knocking Hillary for All the Wrong Reasons
But I keep listening to him trying to hear him actually say something, and I just don't hear anything. Lots of drivel about hope and change and how we need to be united. But his lack of content or any real plans that would tell me that I should 'hope' to have a fair single-payer health care system, or that I should 'hope' he'd have our troops out of Iraq in six months, or many others are just missing. Combine that with his constant message that we need to have 'unity' with everyone in the nation leads me to believe that what he's really saying is that we need to stop opposing the conservatives and we need to stop opposing the corporations in order to create this unity. We damn well know they won't compromise, so apparently its us that have to compromise. My feeling is that anyone who cares about the same issues I do and who votes for Hillary or Obama will find themselves out in the streets alongside me protesting a year into their administrations.
Swift to have another knee surgery
The team said in a statement Friday that Swift received a second opinion on the latest injury this week from Dr. Steve Lombardo in Los Angeles. The Sonics had said they wanted to spend the remainder of the season evaluating how Swift fits into their remodeling plans. Seattle recently traded forward-center Kurt Thomas to San Antonio partly to give Swift and Johan Petro, another inexperienced center, room to grow. "Robert is an important part of the Sonics, and we will continue to support him throughout this rehabilitation process," general manager Sam Presti said last week. Even before he knew for sure that Swift was headed for another surgery, Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo called Swift's injury "horrible news." Also Friday, the Sonics waived veteran forward Ira Newble.
Kiss and Tell: Smooch away for smooth relationship
Smooching is not only a sign of love and affection but, if a study is to be believed, it's also the nature's way of filtering certain people from our lives. Researchers in the United States have carried out the study and found that information conveyed by a kiss can have profound consequences for romantic relationships, and can even be a major factor in ending one. "In other words, while many forces lead two people to connect romantically, the kiss, particularly the first kiss, can be a deal breaker," lead researcher Prof Gordon G Gallup of the University of Albany was quoted by the 'ScienceDaily' as saying. According to the study, sex differences also play a key role in the importance and type of kissing. While males tend to kiss as a means to an end – to gain sexual favours or to reconcile -- females smooch just to establish and monitor the status of their relationship, and to assess and periodically update the level of commitment on the part of a partner.
IMAGINA 08: Give gamers tools, says EA's Entis
Giving gamers tools with which to create their own content is one of the most important aspects of developing games today. That's according to Vancouver-based EA senior VP Glenn Entis, who was discussing the subject of real-time graphics in a session at Imagina 08 in Monaco. "More than half of those that play The Sims spend more than half their time building their houses," he said, going on to point out that videogames are competing for consumers' hours if not quite yet dollars with the likes of Facebook, YouTube, Second Life, and even new technology such as iPods. He cited on application which EA had worked on in the past, called Virtual Me, which was a partnership with TV production company Endemol, revolving around avatar design. Made for a mass audience, there were plans to use the avatars for reality television shows in which participants would choose prospective dating partners by their avatar, for example.
Refugees are too scared to return to Iraq
They struggle to get accommodation, healthcare and an education for their children. Although some refugees have returned, the vast majority are too afraid to go home to areas where sectarian death squads and ethnic cleansers still hold sway. Yet the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) found homes in other countries for a paltry 4,575 last year and admits it is unlikely to fill its quota of 25,000 in 2008. Ghunnam has been put forward for settlement in the US, the country whose missile shattered her family, a place whose language she does not speak and where she knows nobody. She dreads the prospect, yet she is considered luckier than the thousands still waiting to be processed by the languid UN bureaucracy. For now, Ghunnam is trapped like the rest of them in Amman with her memories and an inescapable shame at her decline from respected schoolmistress to the status of beggar.
What fear is being mongered, Obama?
No one before or since could stage a photo op quite like the 30th president of the United States. A favorite was the dour-faced president in black business suit adorned with an Indian headdress. Indians liked Cal because he signed a law granting them full citizenship. And so they made him a full-fledged Sioux chief. He stood in his business suit in this beautiful, feathered headdress that flowed regally to the ground. He looked so darned goofy that it is difficult not to like the guy. Earlier this year, Fred Thompson demurred when it came to making similar poses. He said he doesn't do funny hats. At the time, I agreed. It's not presidential. But after seeing candidates don the cheesehead in an attempt to win votes in Wisconsin, I realized the error of my way.
